We were originally contacted about Lulu in 2007 when she and her mom were running loose at the Lago Vista Airport, dodging the planes. Lulu was very shy and insecure since she had probably never been close to peole, but after many months in a foster home, we felt that she was ready for adoption. Lulu is now back with Safe Haven after 4 years of what she thought was her permanent home, but due to changes in that home, she is back with us. We hope Lulu’s next home will make a commitment to her for the rest of her life.
For the first few days, Lulu was terrified of everything and wouldn’t even eat. But with just a little positive reinforcement, understanding, and the help of other dogs in the foster home, Lulu has made great progress. She now gets really excited when she realizes it’s time to go for a walk and will actually run up with her tail wagging, waiting for her leash to be put on. She walks really well on a leash, does well in the car and when taking a bath, loves other dogs, and has actually started to initiate play with some of her foster buddies. She is also house-trained and can be left alone without having to be crated. She still gets spooked by loud noises and sudden movements, but we know that there is a really sweet and loving dog hiding underneath the surface. Lulu needs a forever home with someone who understands her insecurity and is willing to help her overcome this problem. She really is such a sweet girl, but she just hasn’t been lucky enough to find the right family for her.
