Happy Tails
Since forming Safe Haven Animal Rescue in March 2004, we have placed over 1000 animals in permanent homes! Below are stories from some of our happy adopters.
“We love Mona so much. I really don’t know what we would do without her. She does great int he house by herself, and she stopped digging in the backyard. She has become our perfect little angel.”
– Debbie & Alex Sarabia
“Colton is now Dalton, and he is loving living in Lufkin. He loves to romp in the woods and gets lots of attention from the nearby retirement area. Colton is very smart and is learning new things every day. He loves his new best friend Trey. We will keep you posted on how he is doing. Thanks.”
– Charlie, Trey & Dalton
“The girls are starting to get used to their new home. Thelma has come out to be petted, and this morning all three were sitting around Janice on the floor. Stoney still has to let everyone know she’s in charge, but she’ll get over it. Thanks again for bringing the girls to us.”
– Tommy
“Jennifer and I thought you might want to see some pictures of Ziggy. Shiner and her are getting along very well. She is just about potty trained. An accident here or there, but nothing major. She sleeps through the night now. She always seems like she is smiling and having fun. She will crawl all over Shiner when they are laying on the ground, it’s a fun site to see.”
– Paul & Jennifer Mise
“We went and got Cosmo a gate so we could keep him in the kitchen during the day, instead of the crate. So we left him, and he was fine, and we came back a couple of minutes later and he was out running around, gate still there. So we put him back in and watched him to see how he got out. He jumped up on the gate, CLIMBED the gate, and jumped down! So, back in the crate he goes, until we find another gate. He is doing GREAT!”
– Jessica Cahak
“The girls are doing great! They aren’t crying at all. I am glad they have each other. We are having so much fun. They eat, play, poop, sleep – in that order. We have already started a routine. When they get tired, they just go crash in their kennel. Thank you so much for taking such good care of them and getting them off to a good start.”
– Pam & Candiss
“Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that Aster is doing great. She has many cute little traits that we adore about her. We found out that she likes sitting on top of the couch and loves watching lizards. She gets along very well with the other cats. I forgot how much fun i t is to have a kitten in the family again.”
“We are having such a great time with Spanky… he’s such a sweet guy. Potty training is coming along, he tries really hard and we’ve gotten very good at timing and watching for his signs. He loves his bed, so at night while we’re watching TV in the den and playing with him, he likes to drag all of his toys into his bed and play until he falls asleep. I gave him his first bath here at the house – he didn’t like it very much, but we managed.”
– Kristine
“Paul and I really love our Maggie Mae, aka Pearl. She is very sweet. She stays in the house most of the time, but absolutely loves to go outside and run in our big yard. She wants to play fetch 24 hours a day. She gets along well with our cat and likes to play with our neighbor’s dog. She loves to sit in my lap, her whole 37lbs, and chew on her rawhide bone. Our quiet home has now come to life since she arrived. Thank you so much for this great dog.”
– Kathy
“Spunky is now Astro. He and Cooper are getting along great. They play, sleep and eat together. Astro has been learning how to sit, shake, and walking on the leash. He had his first vet (to our vet) Monday and was very brave for his booster. We are so glad he came to our home.”
– Melissa & Troy
“Just wanted to let you know Odie has the heart of every neighbor on our street. He is such a sweet little cuddle bug. Everyone who meets Odie just loves the little guy. Thanks for giving us Odie, we are so lucky to have the little guy with us!”
-Ann
“Cayenne is happy go lucky, still acts like a puppy, where he likes to chew on things, so I have to make sure he has a toy at all times. He knows how to shake, sit, speak and lay down. We go three times a week for a small run around the block, I wish I would have taken Pepper as well at the time, but man is Cayenne a chore, and I would have been going crazy with two this small.”
– Nick Mendez
“Harley aka Baxter, as you can see, is in a loving home with a big brother and a good mommy and daddy. He is very well loved and plays a lot, we are so happy we could rescue and save him. We thank you very much for this great addition to our family. He fits in good, as you can see. Thank you.”
– Raymond, Debra, Hunter & Harley
“Just wanted to let you know that Katie has settled in just fine over the weekend. She’s a big sweetheart, and all four of us absolutely adore her. We call her Katie bear because he looks like a little grizzly wandering about. She’s gotten lots of attention and she truly is a perfect dog, as you said. I am sure you miss her, but please know that we are taking good care of her, and that we love her dearly. Thank you so much for EVERYTHING!”
– Jennifer
“She is not afraid of any dog, or person. She still loves to give 100 kisses at a time, and she cuddles when she starts to get tired. We bough her a baby pool and put it on the patio and she loves it. She will play and run around the pool and then she will get out of it and run around like a crazy dog. She loves to dig in the water and she could do it for hours at a time. Morgan has so much personality, and we love her for it!”
– Amy & Garret
“Scuzzy is now Mowgli, and we’re crazy about him. He’s a very funny, sweet, happy boy. He loves his toys and his two human and two canine housemates. He’s the most handsome cat we’ve ever had. His favorite place to hang out is upstairs where he has his cat tree, 5 windowsills to watch backyard activity, too many toys to count, and of course, his (our) king-sized bed. He’s quite the snuggler and adores his daily kisses on the head. He loves to play in water, and sometimes hangs out between the shower curtain and the liner while one of us is showering. He’s a nut. We feel blessed to have such a great new addition to the family. Keep up the great work!”
– Tracy, Mark, Mowgli, Lucky & Lightning Erickson
“Angel is great. We are doing well. She has really become a great addition to the family. She is really a loyal companion. Both my girls are in love with her as well. My mom is the funniest… she has never been a pet person, but just goes on and on about Angel, like she is her grandchild.”
– Kirk & family
“Domino, now Max, has been the most wonderful blessing. he’s lovable and loving, smart and playful. he’s training to be a service dog – we’re thrilled that his incredibly sweet personality will lift the hearts of others as it has ours. Thank you Safe Haven!”
“This picture to the left is typical end of the day Boomer, which was taken at the end of the day following our annual 4th of July party. He had lots of kids to play with, plenty of scraps, and as you can see… he was worn out!”
“Oscar, now Niko, has come to our home unplanned. When we saw his little face with the round dark eyes, full of curiosity and energy, we fell for him. Initially we had concerns how our 2-year-old dog, Kimo, would adjust to having another dog in the family. But the concern was washed away after the first night Niko came to our home. Kimo went to see Niko every time Niko cried in the crate. We let Kimo spend the night in the same crate with Niko to comfort him. They have been sleeping and keeping each other company ever since. Now they’re the best of friends. We’re so happy with Niko – he’s a very good puppy, smart and sweet. We know that we’re going to enjoy Niko for years to come.”
“Here’s our two boys. Tyler is 11 and a half years old, and we’ve had Willie since January 2005. He is a great dog and we just love him! He LOVES playing Frisbee and we have to do it every day with him! We’re hoping to make it to the adoption day next Sunday to see everyone and bring Willie!”
“Cheyenne and Matilda have been such wonderful additions to our family. Their unique and interesting personalities have brought many happy times and we continue to wonder what these girls will do to entertain us. Cheyenne (Old Hat Lady, as I call her) is so eccentric and quirky, and Matilda is (Spry, Rebellious Teen) just a gem. They have forever changed our lives and we couldn’t live without them. Thank you, Safe Haven, for bringing them into our lives.”
“Bear (white) and Belle (blue heeler) are best friends, closer than any two animals we’ve ever been around. Where one goes, the other follows. They can’t even go to the bathroom outside if the other one is inside. They’ll just wait by the door until the other comes out! They get along so well and play together all the time. They’re so alike, but at the same time they have their own personality traits as well. Belle is a little more stubborn and independent than Bear. They make our lives complete as they’re truly a part of the family.”
– Nicki & Wade
“Here are a couple of recent pictures of our little girl, Heidi. She has grown a little bit and gotten a lot scruffier. Don’t think she’s a German Wirehaired Pointer though! WE call her a pure bred American Scruffy Mut. She is the light of our lives. Since Tommy works from home, he spends a lot of time with her and she is just his little buddy and goes everywhere with him. She is obsessed with tennis balls and squeaky toys, and just loves to be around us at all times. We couldn’t have asked for a more adorable, loving and all around perfect dog for us. Thank you!”
– Sarah & Tommy Caperton
“We are celebrating our first full week with Lanie, and she is doing great! We have fun feeding the animals together and she likes the 4 wheeler, don’t worry, we don’t go fast. She is the perfect dog for our family. I just had to thank you again for saving her life.”
– Dianne & Larry
“She loves to swim, so I started taking her to Cypress Bend where there is a large field. She has a friend there named Lad, a very large retriever, that she makes chase her. Liking the water, she takes a running leap into the rivers, makes a big splash, and when she comes out, she runs as fast as lightning in circles. We spend an hour there every day. Sasha loves to ride, and has pretty much made it clear she is to go with us everywhere, even if it’s just to sit in the car. She has gained 51lbs, and Velma has taken second place as boss of me.”
– Perry & Velma
“Aida, now Maya, is the best little puppy in the world. As you can see, she and her new big sister, Maggie, get along great. We adopted Maggie as a 2 year old, and she was already house-trained, so we weren’t sure if we would be able to handle ‘puppy-hood’, but we are loving it! She took to her crate right away, and it only took her a couple of days to sleep through the night. She loves to cuddle and get her belly rubbed, and most of all she loves to play with her big sister. We all went to the lake the other day with friends (a total of five dogs) and she acted like one of the big dogs. She is fearless and adorable! Thanks for fostering – you make all the difference in the world!”
“Lola is the best puppy. It’s like we’ve always had her. She loves cuddling up to us and has never met a stranger she didn’t like. She enjoys playing catch in the backyard and likes to chase the cat around. Her eyes are so expressive, it loks as though she’s in deep thought sometimes. Thank God we found her, and thank you for rescuing her, and her siblings. Thanks!”
“Here’s a picture of Daisi with us at the lake. She loves going on boat rides! She hasn’t gone swimming yet because it’s been too cold. Not sure if she likes the water or not, but she doesn’t mind wearing the new life jacket that we got her! She also has made friends with our neighbor’s year old lab… they have gotten together a couple of times and played until they can’t stand anymore. She is a very good dog!”
– Steve & Heather
“Just wanted to let you know that Madison is the most wonderful dog. She and Lizzy are having a great time. Madison met her cousins today (my daughter’s two labs). Everything is working out great. All in all we sure made the right decision – you will never get her back!! Thank you for our Sweetie.”
– Shawn
“I hope all is well with you. I just wanted to let you know that things are going very well with Shayna. She is part of the family, and her and Ranger have become great friends.”
– Mike
“Morgan is doing great. She is getting accustomed to her surroundings and is getting playful and spunky. We take her for a walk every night around the neighborhood at least twice, and on the weekends she gets a morning and evening walk. She follows one of us everywhere we go in the house and gives many kisses now. We really get a kick out of watching her play with her toys by herself. She just had a bath this morning, and was very good about it, although I don’t think she will go back in the bathroom for a little while. We love her and are very happy with her. She likes to go for rides and we have had her down at the hike and bike trail as well.”
– Gary & Sandy
“Daphne is now Layla, and she has stolen our hearts. She is such a sweet dog and we can not imagine life without her now. Teddy, our persian, and Layla take turns chasing each other, and even sleep together with us. Thanks for letting this dog into our lives.”
